Do all Gleanings chapters have to be affiliated with Gleanings, Inc?

• Yes. By being affiliated with Gleanings, Inc., your school contact information will always be accessible from our website. This will ensure members are able to find your chapter in a timely manner.

 

What does Gleanings do?

• Simply put, we are a network of chapters at schools around the world whose members pick fruit from local neighborhoods and donate it on behalf of the homeowners.

How does Gleanings help the needy?

• We donate the fruit picked on behalf of the local homeowners to food banks, charities, and directly to those that need it most.

If I donate monetarily, what does Gleanings do with it?

• All dollars are used to purchase additional supplies that are used to pick and box up fruit.

Wouldn't it be easier just to donate cash or volunteer at food banks?

• Yes. But it would also be more expensive. Food rescue and donations are the most efficient and cost-effective way to get fresh fruit to hungry people. Because all our fruit is ultimately donated, our cost is minimal. Once harvesting tools are purchased, the only recurring cost are the boxes. Also, harvesting excessive fruit can has a positive impact on the environment.

• Absolutely! However, your best option is to join your school chapter or, if no chapter exists, to create a chapter. This ensures that you will not harvest the fruit alone and will have fun with your friends while earning community service hours.
   

I'd like to help but I am not in school or near a local chapter. How can I contribute?

• Gleanings depends on financial donations as well as the fruit harvesters. We are grateful to our supporters all over the world.
